Submission grappling is a characteristic of martial arts, which focuses mainly on clinch and ground fighting. This like any other form of wrestling involves two people. It is also called “Submission wrestling” or “Submission fighting”. It also refers to a method, which includes various other art forms and is a sub-category under “Mixed martial arts”.
The most outstanding feature of this game involves fighting without a uniform style. This game has minimum rules. One of the major rules here says that the fighters are not allowed to kick and punch in this sport.
Submission grappling has been a part of many cultures for many centuries. In the olden days, this was considered as a means to physically fight. It was the Greek style wrestling that added meanness to this sport and was termed “Pankration”. This turned out to be a very fearful act and would end in either a very serious injury or even death. With the time passing by, people realized its importance as a means to entertainment and not merely a “Violent act”.
It was Prince “Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed” who moved this sport forward in modern times by creating a championship under the name of “World Submission Grappling Championships”. It was then when this sport actually got its true identity. This was hosted in the United Arab Emirates and from then on, this sport has taken off as one of the most esteemed grappling events.
This sport has been divided into two broad categories of “Traditional styles” and “International styles”. Traditional styles include of its style that has been a part right from the beginning of civilization in different societies and the latter depicts its modern appearance.
Many types of submission grappling includes:
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – This is practiced in America and Brazil.
- Combat Submission Wrestling – This is a new form of submission wrestling with a little modification as compared to the old form.
- Judo- it is originally from Japan and gives more importance to throws.
- Sambo – This is a Russian style of wrestling. It includes wearing jackets
- Jujutsu- it is another form of Japanese tradition and gives emphasis on self-defense
One of the most renowned wrestlers “Mario Sperry” is termed as a master of this sport. He is gained immense fame in this sport, which depicts his strength and his wide sense of knowledge. He was the first “Heavyweight and Absolute Grand Champion” of the “World Submission Grappling Championships”. Mario Sperry has a lot of his videos in the name of “Secrets of Submission Grappling” where he shares his knowledge about the sport and trains all those who are interested in this sport.
In today’s age, where wrestling is a big source of entertainment, “Submission Grappling” is now gaining more and more popularity and fame for itself around the world.
