Here at World of Combat ( WOC ) we have devised an inovative ranking system to ensure that fighters are ranked according to their performance regardless of which organisation they fight for. This is especialy significant as most of the top ranked fighters compete in different organisations. In addition to the latter, for a fighter to be considered eligible for our ranking system, he must have at least a minimum of one competative fight in the last twelve months in the organisation and weight-class in which he is to be ranked.
The World of Combat Ranking System (WOCRS) is constructed of three major components. Firstly each fighter is given a value according to their current status. For example, a maximum of ten points is given to a current champion in a major organisation such as the UFC and the main title contender is given 9 points. beating the current champion would award you ten points. All fighters who make their debut in the MMA circuit are given a score value of one point. This allows us to adeqautly award scores based on the level and quality of oposition faced, thus providing an accurate assesment.
Secondly, the WOCRS uses Computers to Rank fighters. There are two parts to this sytem. Firstly there is a sytem reffered to as Impetus Ranking Index (IRI). Ths implements complex mathematical calculations to rank fighters based on several factors. The IRI takes into account a fighter’s recent history, ability to finish, as well as his performance against quality opponents. This is related closely to the first part of the Ranking System. The other part of this part of the Ranking System is the Opponnent Strenght Rating (OSR). This uses complex calculations to establish a fighter’s win percentage against that of his opponents over his entire career with that particular organization. These rankings are simply a mathematical consideration meant to balance other intangibles.
The third and final criteria of the WOCRS is the peoples vote. This is fairly self explantory in that it includes opinions of the fight fans, newspapers, magazines and other websites. it is crucial to include this within our system as it allows rankings in accordance with what the MMA fans percieve to be credible fighters. There are certain intangibles such as fighting heart and charisma that can only be ascertained in the eyes of the fans.
The ranking are divided up in to four seperate categories:
- Pound for Pound
- Heavyweight
- Light-Heavyweight
- Middle-Weight
- Welter-weight
- Lightweight
Here at WOC we believe we have the most upto date and reliable ranking criterium. This is for the simple reason that we have taken into account nearly all the variable that will help us ascertain the best fighters. Here , the WOCRS can arguable be considered the most effective non-biased ranking system in the world of Mixed Martial Arts |
