Phil Baroni

Phil Baroni is a highly competitive mixed martial arts fighter who was born on the United States On April the 16th, 1976. With the nickname “The New York Bad Ass”, his over the top entrances and his apparent lack of respect for his opponents made him the official “bad boy” of mixed martial arts. Despite his unsavoury reputation, Phil Baroni has built respectable fan base that come to watch him knock his opponents out.

Phil made his impression on the mixed martial arts circuit, when he fought in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships) where he achieved various knockout victories. His most famous victory is where he demolished the former UFC champion Dave Menne, by a devastating display of power striking and aggression on 27th September 2002. However despite his initial success, this was followed by four consecutive defeats. This in turn led to the UFC terminating his fighting contract.

Despite being released by the UFC, Phil Baroni joined the Pride Fighting Championships where he achieved consecutive wins through his usual display of aggression and power striking. His latest win came in when he fought the Japanese Boxer Yosuke Nishijima who he defeated through a submission. This method of victory was unusual for him as it was his first submission victory in the Pride event.

What is unknown to most of the MMA world is that Phil Baroni has been a two time All American collegiate champion at the highly regarded University of Michigan. Known for his effective boxing skills, some people tend to ignore the fact that he is an accomplished grappler and can handle him self effectively on the ground. This was none more so evident in his fight against Yosuke Nishijima.

All in all it could be clearly argued that Phil Baroni, the self acclaimed “New York Bad Ass” is a highly talented and interesting MMA fighter who has a bright future ahead of him.
