Mixed Martial Arts use the techniques from various other martial arts to combine and form a free-fight form of art. It uses general tactics, such as striking, finishing holds, and control. The rules allow the combatants to use a variety of martial arts techniques, including punches, kicks, joint-locks, chokes, takedowns and throws.

Initially this art was banned as it involved a lot of injuries to the fighters and specially because there were no set of rules and regulations governing the Mixed Martial Art sport.

Ultimate Fighting Championship, or UFC which promoted the art, introduced certain set of rules and disciplines in the sport for the safety and security of its players. Free fight equipments were introduced in the game to avoid any injury or wound to the fighter.

The main part of the body which is often used in any kind of fight is the hand and its parts, namely, the fist, fingers and the palm. The fingers have small delicate bones and veins which are an essential part of our hand. In olden days, before the introduction of these rules, the fighter would injure the fingers; have various fractures and broken bones due to which they could not lead a long fight career.

Keeping these injuries in mind, the UFC introduced gloves as a precautionary measure for the fighters. Small, open-finger gloves were introduced to protect fists in punches. Although some fighters may have well conditioned fists, others may not. The small bones in an unprotected and unconditioned fist are prone to break when it hits a torso or forehead with power.

The introduction of Gloves to the free fight of Mixed Martial Arts also helped to reduce the occurrence of cuts (and stoppages due to cuts) and encourage fighters to use their hands for striking, both of which enable more captivating matches.
