Matthew Hamill


Matthew Hamill, American amateur wrestler and mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. He happens to be deaf. Hamill is popularly known as ‘The Hammer’ and was born on October 5, 1976 in Loveland, Ohio. Matthew Hamill is presently divorced and has a daughter. Matthew Hamill thrice was the  NCAA National Champion in Wrestling Division III (167 lb. class in the year 1997, the 190 lb. class in year 1998 and the 197 lb. class in year 1999) while  attending ‘National Technical Institute for the Deaf’ based in Rochester, New York. Matthew holds an impressive MMA record of 5 – 0 – 0 (5 wins and no losses and draws).

Matthew had started wrestling merely at the tender age of three. In his youth, Matthew went to Loveland High School followed by an engineering major at the Purdue University and finally at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Before wrestling, Matthew Hamill practiced as a bouncer and an electrician as well. Matthew started training in MMA six months before the Ultimate Fighter Championship (UFC) reality show. He was a participator on the third season of reality television show ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, when he was undergoing training under the supervision of Tito Ortiz in weight class of 205 lb (93 kg).

Matthew Hamill won also an opening fight against Mike Nickels by means of decision, however he was not able to continue into the semi-finals because of injuries. During the quarterfinals of that show, Hamill was hospitalized. He was forced to withdraw from the semifinals of the reality show — and a date with Bisping in the Octagon — because of the injury. Bisping then went on to defeat Ross Pointon and Josh Haynes to capture the TUF 3 205-pound title. Bisping is now scheduled to fight Elvis Sinosic at UFC 70 in Manchester, England, making a possible bout with Hamill out of reach at least for the time being. Matthew Hamill also articulated curiosity in training for the forthcoming 2008 Summer Olympics which were to be held in Beijing.

Matthew Hamill is a decorated collegiate wrestler who has only been trained in mixed martial arts for a year and a half. However, since TUF 3 wrapped, he has been perfect, and has recorded a 3-0 inside the Octagon. 24th June 2006, Matthew Hamill competed against Jesse Forbes on ‘Spike TV’ on the reality show ‘The Ultimate Fighter 3’ Finale and emerged victorious by means of TKO. He won against Seth Petruzelli by means of an undisputed verdict at Ortiz vs. Shamrock 3: The Final Chapter, on the 10th of October 2006. Matt Hamill competed against Rex Holman at ‘UFC 68: The Uprising’ where he emerged victotious by Total Knock Out in the first round.

Matthew Hamill is presently in the UFC Association with ‘Team Punishment’.
