Mark Weir


Mark Weir, popularly known as “the wizard”, is a well known English mixed martial arts wrestler, who usually fights in the middleweight classification at 185lbs. Mark Weir was born on September 19, 1967 in Gloucester, England albeit presently he resides in Quedgeley, England. Ranked no 1 in the country undisputedly with an undefeated international fight record, Weir is hailed as being the most experienced fighter in the U.K. He is one of the most revered and respected fighters in the U.K for his consistency throughout his career, as well as his ability to adapt to any hand to hand combat style. His greatest strengths lies in the power of his hands, his extreme speed and the ultimate respect for his sport.

Mark Weir has fought in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and PRIDE Fighting Championships. He was also the former Cage Rage British middleweight champion. Weir has employed skills in the martial art inside the ring and also on screen.  He starred in cinema student Scott Clifford’s low-fund presentation titled ‘Dealing with Danger 2’, which was based on the taewondo theme. He played the part of the villain and choreographed various action sequences.  Clifford required the help of Weir in one more of the amateur works of the student titled, Dead Ringers, a short film made in 2001.

Weir started training in martial arts with boxing and judo, however he later bartered it with taekwondo, to honour his mother’s wishes, which did’nt want him boxing full-time. in 1988, he earned a black belt in taekwondo from Master Hee Il Cho and then proceeded to conquer the 1988 and 1991 World Championships. He is entirely self-taught and a staunch devotee of the MMA scene in Britain.

Weir perhaps noteworthy triumph was definitely in the UFC [Ultimate fighting Championship]. 13th July 2002, at UFC 38, he knocked Eugene Jackson out in 10 seconds flat– at the time, this was the fastest knockout ever seen in the competition. Appropriately, it was too the premier of the UFC in England, with a plethora of British mixed martial artists contending with Weir in the Royal Albert Hall. Mark Weir, being an unbeatable erstwhile world champion in Kick Boxing and Tae Kwon Do tournaments; brought to the fore his well-known punching and kicking ability which has earned him the majority of his matches in cage fighting.

Weir conducts lessons in Cheltenham and Gloucester, where he trains his students in ‘Range Fighting’, which combines  boxing, muay thai, ground fighting and ju jitsu. His most recent match was a divisive defeat to Zelg Galesic by KO. He suffered an eye gouge, which led Weir to endure a disconnected retina at Cage Rage 19: Fearless in the month of December 2006.
