Knives are tools that are generally used for effective cutting. All it consists of is a blade with sharp edges to provide helpful cutting, and a hilt to provide firm grip. The most peculiar fact about a knife is that, it has been in use right since the Stone Age till today.

People often consider knives and daggers as one and the same thing. But, this is not the case. Knives generally include just a single sharp edge that functions to cut, while daggers are more often used for stabbing, with the help of a sharp point. Saying so, there are certain knives which also play the role of stabbing.

Knives are basically classified into two types:

Folding knives – In folding knives, the blade is stored within the handle. The handle is assembled around the frame, with mostly liners within, and perhaps slabs externally. Over an above, folding knives might include a locking mechanism, as an added feature.

Fixed blade knives – Fixed blade knives are those knives which require a covering or other storage technique, when it is not in exercise. In some cases, single or multipart handles are attached to the blade’s tang. The toughest fixed blades are created when a full-tang design lengthens the tang all the way through the handle. These blades resourcefully help in fighting or hunting.

There are legal considerations involved in the use of knives. In several countries, knives are prohibited to be carried in the public, with exceptions relating to its productive usage. Different countries like the US, Japan, Germany, London, and so on; observe different legal rules and procedures, as far as knives are concerned.

One of the special things associated with knives is their modification. Customization is possible with changes in the shape of the handle and the material used. Also, if required, the surface finish of the blade can be refined or darkened, as per the user’s exact requirements.

Therefore, knives play a significant role for abundant purposes, causing a never-ending growth in its use throughout the world.
