Boxing is a combat sport. It is also known as the Pugilism and Prizefighting game as the winner receives a prize in the end for defeating his opponent.

In this sport, the fighters wear thick padded gloves, which help them in both attacking and defending. The fight takes place inside a boxing ring with varies in size. Each bout generally lasts for about three minutes and the winner is the one who lands the most punches or knocks out his opponent.

Boxing's origin can be routed way back in about 688 B.C. in Greece. Here, it was the first time that this sport was fought in Ancient Olympic Games. However in recent times the game has gained huge popularity in US and other countries around the world.

To learn boxing, one has to dedicate his time and energy and put full potential and vigor in his practice. The two most common pieces of equipment you require whilst you participate in Boxing are:

  1. Boxing Gloves
  2. Boxing/ Punching Bang

Boxing Gloves.

It is very important to choose the right kind of boxing gloves, taking into consideration its size, weight, vision and balance. There are two types of gloves namely, Boxing/sparing gloves or bag gloves.

Right size of the glove helps you to punch freely and effectively. It should neither be too small nor too large as it gets difficult to hit the shots from different angles. The size should be perfect to enough to view your opponent through the big glove in front of your face.

Also  equal attention needs to be paid to the weight of the gloves. You need to select the weight you are comfortable fighting with and keep that weight constant throughout as this will help to get the feel of the fight experience. However there are set weights for particular types of gloves.

This game teaches various styles of punches. This includes Jabs, Crosses, Hooks and Upper Cuts which all can cause devastating knockouts.

Boxing Bags.

A right size bag helps in practicing clear and strong punches. Generally a heavy sized bag is used for any fight practice depending on your weight.

The following chart helps you to choose a right sized bag.
60 - 120 lbs.          40 lb. bag
120 - 180 lbs.        60 lb. bag
180 - and up          80 lb. bag

Choose the right size of the bag taking into consideration its hardness and your weight and age too.

With the right gloves and right bag size, the boxer can learn different strokes of attack and defense by punching harder on the boxing bag. The bag will bounce in the direction which will enable the learner to defend himself.

The game is fought in three rounds. In the first round, the boxer is taught to play slow in his own pace. To begin with the hands are first raised up. This is followed by a few jabs which are then doubled and tripled. It is important to learn how to get the punches in and out as fast as possible without hitting or being hit by the boxing box unit.

One needs to have a good balance of body and control over eyes and mind to knock the opponent down. Not necessary, one needs to hit with power. With just 20 percent power, you could hit your opponent down if your eyes and body are in full control and you know various styles of punches and when to hit each stroke. First round would generally be fought in a slow tone.

The second round can be a bit forceful as compared to the first one with various combinations of hand and leg movements. You can play various combinations of punches, which are nothing but the various groups of punches thrown with speed. Here, the speed should not be confused with power. A good speed of hand movements, the best combination of punches and the perfect balance of body, eyes and mind will grow your confidence in the second round with great success over your opponent.

Your third round could tire you a bit, but if you are playing the right way in second round, the third will be fought with more vigor, with the confidence you gained in the second one. At this time, your aim should be to tire your opponent so that he is not able to start the round on the next bell.

This game is fought inside the boxing ring, where many heroic fighters have become superstars. A few of the biggest name in the sport of boxing are Muhammad Ali, Oscar De La Hoya, George Foreman, Leon and Michael Spinks, Floyd Patterson and Ray Leonard.
