BJ Penn


Jay Dee “B.J” Penn is a very popular Hawaiian Jiu Jitsu practitioner. Bron on 12th December 1978, B.J Penn, as he is popularly known is an American professional mixed martial arts fighter. B.J Penn has a record of being the first American born World Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championship (Mundial) winner in the black belt category. Penn is a former Ultimate Fighting Championship Welterweight Champion. He is currently acting as a coach to the upcoming The Ultimate Fighter 5 Reality Show. His girlfriend is the very famous Guess supermodel Tori Praver who is also from Hawaii.

“B.J”, his nickname is a shorter version for “Baby Jay”. He is the youngest of all his brothers, all having the name “Jay Dee Penn”. BJ Penn began his career at a very early age of seventeen by training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Tom Callos, his neighbour introduced Jiu Jitsu to him. Later on BJ Penn began training under Ralph Gracie. He was awarded the black belt by Andre Pederneiras of Nova Uniao, making him the first non-Brazilian to win a gold medal in Brazil.

BJ Penn began his mixed martial arts career in the year 2001. He was fascinated by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He showed very strong striking skills throughout his career and defeated champions like Caol Uno and Din Thomas. In the year 2003, BJ Penn left the Ultimate Fighting Championship. However he returned later and then he was crowned in 2004 at the UFC46. BJ Penn made it to the higher weight classes challenging the five-time defending welterweight champion Matt Hughes. BJ Penn won the match against all odds in the first round by rear naked choke.

In the year 2006, the Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White made an announcement declaring the UFC and BJ Penn have got into a settlement and that Penn can now return for fighting in the welterweight category. In 2006, BJ Penn lost to Hughes in a very close match that went into the third round. BJ Penn was injured during the match and could hardly breathe. Penn is determined to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and wants to regain the welterweight championship title. BJ Pen has also signed up recently with The Ultimate Fighter 5, a reality show where he would be the coach. The show would begin in April 2007. BJ Penn would be coaching a team of 8 lightweight fighters in the show. He would also have a rematch with Jens Pulver at the end of the series.
