Alistair Overeem is popularly referred to as the Demolition Man. He is a Dutch mixed marital arts fighter. Overeem was born on May 17, 1980. He has height 6’5 and weight 205lbs. Alistair Overeem has Shooto and Muay Thai as his fighting styles. Alistair Overeem has a great professional record of 24-9-0. At Pride 2005 middle- weight tournament, he was one of the 4 semifinalists.
Alistair Overeem’s career has seen many ups and downs. He first entered Pride in July 2002. He defeated Yusuke Imamuro in just 44 seconds with TKO. In June 2003 at Pride 26 his next fight was with Mike Bencic. Alistair Overeem also defeated Mike. On 1st October 2004 he defeated Hiromitsu Kanehara by TKO at Pride 28-High Octane. At Pride 29 fists of fire Alistair Overeem lost against Brazilian team top fighter Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Again in Pride middle- weight tournament at Total Elimination 2005, he defeated Vitor Belfort popularly called as The Phenom. At Final Conflict 2005, Mauricio Rua defeated him.
One of the matches of February 2006 saw Alistair Overeem fight against Russian top team favorite Sergei Kharitonov. Alistair Overeem not only won this fight but during the fight he also dislocated Kharitonov’s shoulder with knee strikes. After his victory against Kharitonov he got a place in Pride’s open weight grand prix. After Kharitonov, he fought against Croatian fighter Sanjin Kadunc. He submitted Sanjin in 2 minutes with an armbar.
Alistair Overeem’s career has been fairly erratic as he has inconsistent victories. Fabricio Werdum, who is a ju jitsu specialist won against Alistair Overeem via kimura submission. Then he moved to fight against Vitor Belfort in San Jose, California at the Strike force event, Revenge. He won this match. A month later Alistair Overeem returned to Pride for a highly anticipated rematch with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, despite being injured coming into the fight. Early in the second round as Alistair Overeem stumbled from a punch, Rogerio Nogueira threw a flurry of punches thus beating him by a TKO.
In his last fight against Ricardo Arona at Pride Final Conflict Absolute on 10th September, 2006 a leg kick injured his nerves that caused him numbness in his foot and leg. Alistair Overeem moved out to avoid further injury. Alistair Overeem’s next fight will be with Mauricio Rua, Shogun in Las Vegas in the upcoming Pride 33.
